Boy or Girl?

My husband Eric and I have only ever wanted two children. And in our ideal world, we would have a big brother and baby sister. Our first born is our son named Elliott. When Elliott was ten months old we decided to try for baby number two. We both wanted a girl VERY badly. When we  went to our 20 week appointment where we would learn the sex of our baby, we had the doctor write the sex of the baby on a paper and put it in an envelope.  We wanted to find out in private later on that day.

A Series of FORTUNATE Events

On our way home we were extremely anxious. Because LIFE happens at the most inconvenient of times, our car broke down on the side of the road just minutes after leaving the Doctor’s office. As Eric was trying to fix the car and Elliott was having a tantrum in his car seat, I decided I couldn’t wait any longer. I needed to know NOW! Eric and I decided to open the results on the side of the road, next to our broken down car on a hot summer day. Eric was standing across from me holding Elliott in his arms. I asked Eric if he would be okay with me seeing the results first and reading it aloud. He agreed.

Gender Reveal

I opened the envelope and I unfolded the paper and in all caps the doctor had written “GIRL!!!”. I started screaming immediately “OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD! IT’S A GIRL! ERIC ITS A GIRL!” We both immediately started crying and hugging each other. Elliott had no idea what was going on but because we were happy, he started clapping to celebrate with us. So there we were, broken down on the side of the road, jumping up and down, crying tears of joy because we were blessed with the complete family we had always prayed for. When I think of the happiest moments of my life, this is a moment that comes to mind. I cannot wait to tell my daughter, Hazel, this story one day.
