In 2003, during undergraduate school in Collegedale, TN, mom and dad met each other through a mutual friend. Dad was soon to graduate and mom was just starting. They were both involved in other commitments but their brief interaction was enough to make a lasting impression. Each went their own way in life and little did they know that 10 year later their paths would cross again. In 2013, that same mutual friend posted a video on FB of a camping trip they both attended during their undergrad years. Dad saw the video and was reminded of the girl he had met long ago. A few weeks later he saw a picture of her on Instagram and added her as a friend. They liked each other’s pictures, in the process rebuilding an old friendship. Mom was living in Massachusetts at the time and dad was in Orlando. Dad decided to make a trip to Boston to see if the sparks were also there in person. Sparks were definitely flying that weekend and they started dating soon after. Due to the distance they started traveling every weekend to see each other. Mom would travel to Orlando twice a month and dad to Massachusetts twice a month. They were engaged within five months and married in another five months! Madalyn was born February 21, 2016, nine months after their one year anniversary. Mom and Dad know that God truly led them to each other and continue to trust in His plan for them.
Dad had always told mom that he didn’t want her finding out they were pregnant before him, so every time she took a pregnancy test, he was right there and they found out at the same time.
Mom and Dad had a long list of baby names that included Ella, Aria, Alise, and Ariana. But they didn’t feel like any of those were quite right for their little girl and kept finding excuses why they didn’t like each of them. One day a random thought dawned on mom. She decided that maybe she could come up with a name by combining their names. She played around with it for a bit and came up with Madalyn. Ma – first two letters of dad’s first name; Da – first two letters of dad’s middle name; Lyn – last 3 letters of mom’s first name. And that was it, the perfect name for their little one!
