Mom meets Dad
Mom and Dad met at a mutual friend’s birthday party while both attending law school. They’ve been together for eight years now and married for nearly six. Dad proposed on a trip to New York over the holidays. About a year ago, they had just finished unsuccessful fertility treatments and were moving into a new house. Then, BAM, they were pregnant and couldn’t have been any more thrilled!
It’s a Girl
Mom and Dad were convinced they were having a boy because Mom’s symptoms were so different then her last pregnancy. They were shocked, but thrilled to find out they were having another girl. Mom may be a little giddy that Dad is outnumbered and the girls rule the house. Lucy Mary is the perfect name for this little gal. Lucy is a family nickname and Mary comes from both grandmothers and her paternal great grandmother.
After big sister was unexpectedly premature, they made sure to have the nursery done before the second trimester was over. Everything was ready well in advance. With all that was to come, it’s a good thing that baby prep was off the to-do list.
Not Quite as Expected
Labor and delivery were traumatic, including some complications and Dad passing out, but Mom and Dad are just thrilled that Lucy has arrived safely! Mom says Lucy reminds her of her grandfather, but that could be “because all babies look like little old men. That or baked potatoes!”
And then there was that Hurricane…
They were released a little early from the hospital, just as Hurricane Matthew was arriving in Central Florida. The family stayed with grandma and grandpa (who had a generator) so that Lucy’s electric bilirubin blanket would have reliable power. They were lucky not to lose power there, but couldn’t return to their own home for a few days until power was restored.
Happily Ever After
From the surprise that they were pregnant to the tumultuous labor and hurricane conditions, I’m sure Mom and Dad are looking forward to what other excitement Lucy will bring to their lives.
