They Meet (in High School!)
Mom and Dad were high school sweethearts. They’ve been together for over 15 years and have been married for 10.
This second pregnancy was much more difficult for Mom. After having two miscarriages last year, she was diagnosed with thrombophilia (a blood clotting disorder). Isabelle is their beautiful rainbow baby. From the beginning of this pregnancy, she had to give herself daily injections of blood thinner in the stomach and will continue to do so until Isabelle is six weeks old. If that wasn’t bad enough, at the beginning of her third trimester she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Having to completely alter her diet while pregnant AND during the holidays was no fun. But Isabelle was totally worth it!
It’s a Girl!
Mom and Dad found out the gender as soon as they could. They already had a son and with four nephews and only one niece, the entire family was excited to hear that they were having a girl.
She has a name (and it’s NOT Isabella)
The only girl name Mom and Dad ever agreed on was Isabelle. They kept the baby’s name a secret from everyone, but that didn’t keep everyone from guessing and asking for hints and clues. Mom’s family decided they liked the name Isabella and kept calling her that. It drove her absolutely crazy since it was so close to her actual name. The nephews are now accidentally calling her Isabella, out of habit, instead of Isabelle.
Due to certain risks involved with the pregnancy, Mom was induced this time. She went in to the hospital at 11:00 a.m. on the 23rd and by the time they actually got things started she thought there was no way baby girl would come that day. Long story short, the doctor barely made it to the hospital in time to deliver Isabelle at 11:39 p.m. that night. Being told by your nurse, “Don’t push! The doctor is 15 minutes away!” made for some excitement. The nurse later admitted she really just didn’t want to fill out the paperwork involved if she had had to deliver the baby!
Isabelle has been a really good baby so far. She eats and then she sleeps. She only wakes up a few times at night, so Mommy and Daddy actually get a chance to sleep too. I’m sure they’re keeping their fingers crossed that it lasts!
