It’s a… Surprise!

My husband Kyle and I decided not to find out the gender of our baby until our baby was born.  We have a two and a half year old son named Caleb.  We figured, if we wound up having another boy, we would have everything we needed, and if it was a girl, we would just need some new clothes.  There wasn’t nearly as much to prepare for the second time around, so we decided to wait for the surprise of a lifetime.  Not many things in life are truly a surprise.  We were so excited to wait for this special moment.  As my pregnancy continued, we became more and more convinced that we were going to have a boy.  Obviously, there is a 50/50 chance, but it just really seemed like we were having a boy.

Hypnobirthing and Natural Childbirth

I really wanted to have a natural child birth.  Kyle and I took hypnobirthing classes in preparation for the birth of our child, I read several books and practiced my hypnobirthing breathing and techniques.  We even hired a doula.  I went several days past my due date, but I was really determined to stay relaxed and wait for my baby to come on his/her own time.  The day I went into labor, I worked all day while having contractions.  I think I was kind of in denial that this was it.  Even after coming home from work at the end of the day, the contractions continued, but I wasn’t sure this was the real thing.  I continued to relax and breathe through the contractions like I had practiced for so many months before.

At 2:00 in the morning my water broke.  My husband and I started getting things together to go to the hospital, and thats when contractions really started to come on much stronger.  We left our house around 2:20.  Let me tell you, having contractions in the car is not fun!  When we arrived at the hospital a security guard pushed me in a wheel chair into triage.  At this point, I knew the baby was coming any minute, and I let the nurses know!  At 3:06 our beautiful baby girl was born.  We were in the hospital for around 10 minutes before Evelyn came into the world.  Needless to say, I got the natural child birth experience I wanted.  We were shocked to be holding our precious baby that quickly and even more shocked that she was a girl!  It certainly was the surprise of a life time!

A Precious Family

We are so thrilled and blessed to have such a sweet little family of four.  Caleb is already an amazing big brother.  He loves Evelyn and I’m sure they will be friends for life.  Kyle and I feel so thankful to have a healthy, happy family. We are really enjoying our time at home together with both of our kids this holiday season.
